Parents of children with food allergies understand the never-ending struggle to find great desserts that are safe to eat. Laura Hannan, owner of Wild Rabbit Bistro hopes to change that for Ormond Beach. With a diverse roster of goodies, this charming spot boasts an airy, farmhouse style interior and is the perfect backdrop for enjoying vegan or gluten-free sweets with your kiddos.
In a recent visit to the Bistro with our toddlers, we met up with Hannan and her Baker Wendy, who proved to us that you don’t need dairy or gluten to have a good time. The standard when baking their delicious vegan desserts is that it should taste just like the real thing; it should be comparable to normal non-vegan desserts.
Wild Rabbit Bistro’s signature chocolate cake recipe, inspired by a recipe Wendy and her mother created, is so good that many customers (including Jeri) enjoy it without realizing it’s entirely vegan.
Laura is catering to people with dietary needs, while allowing them to enjoy something new. She admitted that people have broken down and cried in her restaurant before, because “kids and parents can finally eat a baked good with the rest of their family that meets their allergen specifications.”
At Wild Rabbit, everything — from the shop’s uniquely blended teas to custom cakes and gluten-free cookies — is made using fresh local produce and ingredients. The restaurant is not vegetarian, but offers numerous vegetarian selections as well a vegan-friendly menu.
